Well phrased. We simply have no idea what an alien intelligence would want, if anything, and what kind of technology it would create to get it. Not to mention the possibility of interdimensional vs interstellar intelligences, which could be potentially take advantage of physical laws of which we know nothing. Or it could all be swamp gas and weather balloons. But for now as you say, everything is on the table.
