We have no idea what consciousness even means, in spite of years of study. Are you conscious? Am I? Or are we just mechanisms slightly more sophisticated--for now--than the ones we're building?

I agree I'd be more scared of an armed nutjob in my immediate presence but for long-term threat to the species imma go with AI.
