There were thousands that didn't make it so in some degree we have to rely on the honesty of the editors. As far as understanding meaning goes, you're likely right, but we have no way of proving that. Certainly some of the current systems have fooled experts into believing them self-aware. I'd be very wary about getting too sanguine about this technology.
