Some guy did go out a few years back without any particular mandate and dump a bunch of iron into the ocean to see what would happen. I don’t recall if any useful data came from it though. From what I’ve read about the Aus bloom, it’s not really clear how much of the captured CO2 just ends up back in the ocean when the algae dies anyway.
