People in comments are interpreting "God" as some bearded skyman deity, which is diametrically opposed to what I'm suggesting. Even using Occams' Razor as a principle to assess the question, it seems likely that consciousness is far larger than our brains.

It seems strange to claim human consciousness is unique while at the same time insisting we're just a random outcome of nature and nothing special in the universe.
