Michael Scott was more like David Brent in the beginning, but over time became far more sympathetic and the cringe level diminished. The notable exception was when he went to the inner city school where he'd years earlier promised to put all the kids who graduated through college, and had to admit he could only afford to give them a laptop case or something. It's so cringe it's practically unwatchable.
