It’s not a one-for-one replication of the EPE — no Siberian Traps, as you observe — but I don’t think it’s a stretch at all. For starters, while we’re nowhere near the peak CO2 levels 250 million years ago, as I said we’re producing twice as much every year and we have absolutely no idea what the tipping points might be. And we’ve got shit like Arctic methane release, the consequences of which we also don’t know.
