IMO Dalton goes for dark and dangerous, but comes off as petulant and irritable.

…Daniel Craig too gloomy, Pierce Brosnan too ill-served by bland scripts, George Lazenby too wooden, Timothy Dalton too… actually I think Dalton is underrated, but he isn’t Connery. In short, nobody did it better than Sean Connery. He is Bond. James Bond.

IMO Dalton goes for dark and dangerous, but comes off as petulant and irritable. The franchise had to wait for Craig to do this properly.
