If a doctor can work faster and more accurately and heal more people, that’s a tangible benefit to society. If we can design and build eco-friendly infrastructure more easily because of these new tools, that’s a win too. The reason I’m a pessimist is that there are lots of downsides to the technology and we don’t have a strong track record as a species of avoiding downsides.
