I watched some peculiar American show that combined baking and engineering and they had a contestant who was evidently lesbian because they kept showing clips of her hanging with her wife or talking about her wife.

Either none of the other contestants had partners, or they were keeping quiet about it, or they weren't being badgered by the producers to talk about them or have them appear on camera. I'm going with option three.
