I can never tell if you're serious or not but this reads that way so I'll respond in kind.

Firstly, I personally did find the poems and the way they were spawned terrifying (it's worth reading the detail.)

Secondly, it seems to be largely (although not exclusively) media pundits espousing a "LLM are just glorified autocomplete" approach to AI.

Meanwhile, longtime experts in the field like Geoffrey Hinton, Eliezer Yudkowsky and the host of tech luminaries who signed two open letters this year saying that the brakes need to be applied to AI research, are immensely concerned about where we're headed.

As far back as 2021, before the remarkable capacities of current systems were developed and made public, a survey of people working in AI found that a majority saw a greater than 10 percent chance of the technology becoming an existential threat.

I don't think it serves us well to be sanguine about it.
