Great story. When I was about 13 I went to Iowa and stayed at my stepfather's aunt and uncle's farm. They raised tiny dogs (in cages) and enormous terrifying pigs (in pens). It was all quite disconcerting to someone who'd never seen a working farm, and in hindsight I think it would have given any animal-lover nightmares for weeks.
