Do salmon die right after they spawn?

You finish your masterpiece and your story lays like a dead salmon on a polluted river. Or maybe like a normal salmon after it spawned. But it’s dead until someone reads it.

Do salmon die right after they spawn? Or do they swim around for a while, drowsy and satisfied? I guess I could google this. Sorry I'm on a tangent.
